Mumbai: Vasudev Kanuga,a resident of Koregaon Park, Pune, has decided to file a defamation suit against Wigan and Leigh College (WLC), Pune, and its Delhi Campus chief executive officer, Molobika Sengupta, for allegedly accusing his daughter Karishma of threatening to ‘blackmail’ WLC India.

In July 2009, Karishma had won a case filed against WLC in the Pune district consumer dispute redressal forum(consumer court) after she was forced to abandon her Bachelor (honours) in Mass Media course at the WLC as the institution was not approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

“Karishma had to abandon the course halfway as there were no regular lectures taking place and we were shocked when we got to know that the institution was not approved by the AICTE.In the whole mess, Karishma lost an entire academic year,” Kanuga said.

He said it was later that they decided to file a case against the institute in the Pune District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum in Jan 2008.

After Karishma won the case, the forum directed WLC to refund the fees of Rs1.28 lakh, along with 9%interest, as well as compensation of Rs50,000 as Karishma had lost an academic year, he said. Karishma then went to Mumbai to pursue her degree in mass media and secured the degree this year with distinction.

Kanuga’s case in the Pune District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum was represented by the city-based consumer welfare
organisation Grahak Hitvardhini.

According to Kanuga, the family was deeply hurt when a report appeared in a local daily last year quoting Sengupta as saying, “She (Karishma) threatened that she would approach the court and the press, which was blackmail.”

Sengupta said, “I do not think I have made any defamatory statement against Kanuga.”

Harrasment at work place and Non-Payment of Salary, Denial of medical benefits
Created by prachi.varun on January 12, 2010, 6:03 pm in Civil and Human Rights

Hi Sir,
I was employed with WLCI College Bangalore Campus since August 26, 2009. I was performing exceptionally well as the program manager for Life Skills sessions and i was further allocated the HR classes which was not my specialization. I started taking those on the instruction of campus director Mr. Hidayath and was doing preity well during those classes as well.

On December 01, 2009 our Chairman Mr.Vinay came to the campus and despite Mr. Hidayath knowing that i was unwell and was in 3rd month of pregnancy, these two seniors made me stay in office till 7 PM on December 02, 2009 when no other female employee was there. Mr.Vinay started using abusive language with Mr.Hidayath and used very derogatory words which as a women i can't even withstand. He was shouting bad words at Mr.Hidayath and me over his basis for hiring me and allocating me the HR classes. Mr. Vinay then called Ms.Malobika (Noida Office) and shouted at her saying that will you hire any dog to conduct classes of HR. I never heard such a abusive language in whole of my life and the person who is the Chairman of a professional institution using the same for a women is not at all acceptable. He himself said that you resign from your services as there is no provision for taking maternity leave in our organization.

I was ill during that time and got admitted to the St. Philomenus Hospital the very next day, i was under tremendous emotional distress when i came to know that i have some very critical illness and that too when i am pregnant, i called up my Centre Director Mr.Hidayath to inform him about my condition but he dint even cared picking up the call, I sent him a sms as well which he dint replied. I was advised bed rest and no travel. At the day of salary disbursement when I dint received my salary I called up Mr. Hidayath, he said that I should get in touch with Noida office. I mailed to Noida office and they dint even replied to my mails, no one even called me to check the status of my health and despite knowing that I am in Hospital they stopped my salary.

As I was advised complete bed rest with zero movement activities because of critical illness, my Husband Mr.Varun mailed all the higher management persons in Noida to check what is being done to my services and why my salary cheque is stopped, he repeatedly requested them to grant me leaves and release my salary but they dint gave any ear to that. Instead Mr.Nitin (AGM-HR) called up to inform that he apologize for whatever happened but he said Mr.Chairman has asked him to terminate me, when my husband asked for the mail stating the same, they dint even turned back. Mr.Nitin said you are free to take whatever steps you want and they will do a full and final settlement of my dues.

I wrote a complaint then to National Women Commision (Complaint Id : C0503995), then i received a call from Mr.Brahmdutt Sharma that he will be happy to take me back when i will be fit to join and he said that all my dues will be released in next one week, he asked me to return 2 library books for clearance which i did, but after that even he started ignoring my calls and he din't even responding my mail pleas for salary clearance and sanctioning of leave.

Issues:

1. Use of abusive language (Derogatory remarks against women employee).

2. Making me stand in office for more than 12 hours when no other female staff was there in office.

3. Denial of Maternity leaves.

4. Threat of termination if I ask for maternity leaves.

5. Stopping of my November salary when I was hospitalized. (till date no clearance has been done for that)

6. No reason given for not releasing the salary.

7. Telling me that I am terminated without any mail.

8. Despite promising that salary will be released in 1 week, its been over 3 weeks and they are not even sanctioning my leave and releasing my salary.

I want these issues to be raised and addressed in a dignified manner and as an educated and qualified women I want other women to know that still there is lot of discrimination in the society and violation of Article 42 of constitution of India which states that women should be provided just and human work atmosphere and maternity relief.

Please help me getting this complaint addressed with adequate action against Mr.Hidayath & Mr. Brahmdutt Sharma (Centre Director, WLC Bangalore Campus) and Mr.Vinay Parischa(Chairman, WLC Campus), who doesnt even have know how to treat a women with respect.

More details about all me and my husbands email communications with WLC for leave request, salary release and complaints can be made available if required.

Through this board i want to alert everyone who wants to be associated with WLCI, where there is no professionalism and respect for the women employees.

WLC College - Deccan Herald News

They had no permission to function, says Minister Limbavali

State to shut 35 colleges

Bangalore Jan 22 Deccan Herald News Service - http://www.deccanherald.com/content/48341/state-shut-35-colleges.html

Close on the heels of the Centre threatening to de-recognise six deemed universities in the State, the State government on Friday released a list of 35 unauthorised colleges and said that steps will be taken to close them down.

Among the colleges are M S Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, M P Birla Institute of Management, Amity Global Business School and IIJT Finance.

Except two colleges, the rest are based in Bangalore and six are being run with foreign collaboration. Most of them offer courses in business management.

In fact, the Government in its order dated December 10, 2009 has already authorised Commissioner for Collegiate Education to inspect records, registers and other documents in these institutions and ascertain whether the programmes being conducted by them are approved by the competent authority.

Disclosing this to reporters, Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali said all these institutions were illegal as they had not taken any permission to function. “The department issued two notices to them, but they did not respond. Now we have no option but to close them down. If necessary, we will take the help of police for this purpose,” he stated.

He, however, said the department may consider giving them permission only if their infrastructure is found good and if they are imparting quality education.

Asked about the fate of students in these colleges, the Minister said the students have to be careful while joining such colleges. “If they (students) want a good career, they have to be careful. They have to crosscheck if a college is authorised or not before taking admission,” he added.

The Higher Education department has released Rs 8 crore towards reimbursing the additional fee paid by students while joining engineering courses under the Government quota in 2006-07.

The department has to reimburse a total of Rs 33 crore to 4,379 students. This is the first installment. All dues will be cleared within a few days. The money will be deposited to the bank account o f the students, Limbavali said.

WLC College – Facts

WLC College – Qualification

2010 April 24

Posted by Student Mentor @ http://wlccollege.blog.com/

Welcome to WLC College !

For past 13 years, WLC has been operating in India under the disguise of a College affiliated to Wigan & Leigh College, UK. With academic year 2010, they have started offering PDBM – Professional Diploma in Business Management in lieu of PGDBE – Post Graduate Diploma in Business Economics.

FAQ’s:

WHAT IS PDBM?

PDBM is professional diploma. It does not mean that it is Post Graduate. It does not have any validity and recognition of a professional body or industry. By no means it is equivalent to an MBA or PGP program offered by autonomous institutions.

WHAT IS CMI?

Also the Certifications offered by CMI, UK are not recognised by any industry within India. CMI is recognised only within UK.

WILL I GET AN INTERNSHIP?

The internship offered while you are studying in WLC College is equivalent to a job that even an HSC passed candidate is elligble. As the WLC program itself has no recognition there is no point in spending half a million rupees on it.

WILL I GET A BANK OR GOVERNMENT JOB?

NO. WLC College is not recognised by AICTE or UGC. So you are not elligible for any Bank or Government Job.

IS IT AFFILIATED TO WIGAN & LEIGH, UK?

It is not affiliated to Wigan & Leigh, UK. It merely provides students an equivalence certificate on payment of 400 pound fee to Wigan & leigh.

Wigan & Leigh does not conduct any audit in WLC India. WLC India has changed its domain from wiganindia.org to wlci.in.

Nor does WLCI is an abbrivation of Wigan & Leigh College India.

WHY IS GOVERNMENT OF INDIA NOT ACTING AGAINST WLC?

WLCI is registered as a company under Training & Placement Category. Legally it is operating like any other HR Consultant. Recently they changed their domain from wigan to wlci to avoid any legal trouble. Hence they are not doing anything illegal as they dont mention the word college anywhere.

WHY & WHO SHOULD OPT FOR CHOOSE WLCI ?

If you have done miserably in MBA entrance exams like CET/CAT/XAT/MAT and you have enough money to splurge to justify your stay in a big city then you can opt for WLCI.

COST CUTTING MEASURES BY WLCI IN TIMES OF RECESSION?

* Teaching hours per module were reduced from 39 Hours per module to 30 Hours in 2009
* Online/Virtual classes are given to students if the batch size is small. Hence they save on salaries
* Fire employees and switch to virtual classes. Hence reduce on salary. Also they never pay employees their last month salary which accounts for huge savings for the top management.

WLCi Goa Campus Complaints - Refund of Security Deposit (10,000/-)

WLCi Goa Campus

Refund of Security Deposit (10,000/-)

It has been a year now since i completed my course from WLCi Goa.
I have been calmly requesting the college to refund the security deposit of Rs. 10,000/- for the past one year now, i have just been driven from pillar to post...
The only answer i have been given till now is, you will be contacted or i will forward your request to the right department, and i have been kept giving forms to fill.
Recently i have visited the Goa branch center head, she explained that almost about 60% to 70% of the deposit amount will be deducted as a fine towards late payment of fees...

To tell you frankly, i don't think i ever faultered in paying my fees or it could be a communication gap from you'll to us, which is not at all our fault. Some of many reasons being:-

* The fee structure that was given to me never had dates mentioned on it.
* mine was a loan from the bank, so i had no problems in paying the fees on time. As and wen the college told, i intimated the bank and the DD was sent across.
* The exact dates of payment and fines for late payment of fees was never told to us.
* There was no undertaking, taken from us, like it has been done with the recent batch.
* I have all my fee receipts and other documents supporting my above statements.

So to conclude, the entity to be penalized is the institute, not us students...

It's penalty time for WLC College

Mumbai: Students, beware! The course you are pursuing may not be an approved one.

Prominent management and engineering institutes across the country have come under the scanner of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for running technical programmes without its approval.

AICTE is a regulatory body for technical education.

A list of nearly 134 institutes, prepared by AICTE, cites various undergraduate and postgraduate courses being operated without the recognition of the council.

Most of the institutes are in New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The AICTE has now asked the state governments to take suitable action against the erring institutes, said SS Mantha, officiating chairman of the AICTE.

Of the 134 institutes, around 57 are in Maharashtra (Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Nashik).

Of this, around 26 are in Mumbai, including Elphinstone College, Fort; Hindustan Institute of Technology & Management, Borivli; and WLC College of India, Mahalaxmi.

http://www.dnaindia.com/academy/report_it-s-penalty-time-for-erring-institutes_1404081

The AICTE has also sent another defaulters’ list which has names of institutes running technical programme with foreign collaborations, but without the approval of the council.

These institutes — 67 in total — are in Maharashtra, New Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Of these, Maharashtra has 19 institutes including 14 in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.

Kohinoor College of Management, Dadar, and Welingkar Institute of Management & Research, Matunga, are two such colleges.

“We will check whether the courses are approved by any other authority, state, university or the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University,” said SK Mahajan, director, directorate of technical education. “If we find that they are not sanctioned, we will ask them to stop admissions and then decide on next course of action.”

About WLC College - Complete Review

WLC College started back in 1996 . It was a good college back them offering fashion designing and other courses which were in demand and back then this college was known as wigan and leigh india. The college had a unique traineeship program where its students were placed even while doing the course. It was great .

In 2002, Its relation ship with wigan and leigh ended as the courses and training methodology was found to be unacceptable to wigan and leigh uk standards. WLC College had expanded to 40 campuses across india , but met with little success as it was unknown in other states. It has 29 now. It keeps using the deceptive name wlc college , without letting anyone know that it was no more a part of wigan and leigh uk . It was merely affiliated !

the college is not UGC or AICTE approved , hence it can not offer any degree courses . In fact the college is not even allowed to offer any course that is more than 6 months in duration ! So what did they do ? wlc college started giving 6 monthly certificates for every 6 months which is just ridiculous . The final diploma comes from wigan and leigh uk or university of sunderland after you have paid then about 400 british pounds !The strange part is that neither of these uk colleges are involved in making the course material , syllabus , tests , training and placement . They are just making money sitting there in Uk .

The diploma offered by them is of no value in India.

The college has an aggressive marketing strategy and anyone can get admission provided he/she is ready to pay the fees which is Exorbitant .

The college offers so called cutting edge programs , where students get to watch movies and party to some hip numbers . The students obviously pay extra for these . The faculty is derived from everywhere and this means that even an IT Technician with no training / communication skills will be thrown in to take a class ! Its a poor show.So is their traineeship ! Students are promised traineeship and good amount as stipend which is far from truth.

You may choose finance or HR as your subject , but you will be asked to join an insurance field job. A student of design can be asked to do the same . The excuse they offer is that all great people started their careers in whatever through sales !! No that is bull crap ! How does experience in sales help one while pursuing a career in finance or hr , or designing ??

The college reuses to refund registration deposits , even if no classes are held !There are no batch start dates as they look for a minimum batch size and if its not complete you can be asked to wait for 2 months more ! This situation is worse fo4 students who take high loans to do the course often lured by glitzy marketing , but then realize that it was all fake . There have been cases where students have held strikes , have sued the college and have posted their plight online for others to see.

It s mess what they have made of education. To summarize i suggest that you Find a better college . Avoid wlc college

Karishma Kanuga took college to consumer court after it refused to refund fees. Court has ordered that fees be returned with 9% interest, along with compensation of Rs 50,000 for loss of a year

By Arundhati Ranade
Posted On Tuesday, July 07, 2009 at 03:10:39 AM

During classes, they (college) would show us movies and TV shows. For just that, I was travelling all the way from Koregaon Park to Prabhat Road and paying Rs 1.28 lakh!”

— Karishma Kanuga

VV Kanuga holds up the Consumer Forum order, a copy of which is with Pune Mirror
When Karishma Kanuga got admitted into a mass media course at a college affiliated to a well-known foreign university, three years ago, the 18-year-old had bright dreams of a quality education and a prospective career, thereafter.

But those dreams soon came to a grinding halt, when Karishma discovered, to her shock, that the institution she had hoped to pursue her graduate studies from was not approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Karishma, now 21 years old and a resident of Koregaon Park, had enrolled herself at the Wigan and Leigh College (WLC) India Pune centre in September of 2006, for a mass media degree.

She was compelled to abandon the course after few months, after realising there were no regular classes or lectures taking place.

While she lost an entire year of her academic career, it was only when the college denied to refund her fees that she and her parents decided to go to the Consumer Forum.

And finally, after fighting in court for close to two years, Karishma and her parents have been given the justice they were due.

Last week, the Forum’s order came through, which has directed the institute to refund the fees, which is Rs 1.28 lakh, along with an 9 per cent interest, as well as compensation of Rs 50,000 as Karishma has lost an academic year.

The institute has to make the payments within two months from the date of receiving the order.

Almost 41 working days passed by without a single regular class or lecture.

We had paid a huge sum of Rs 1,28,258 for the course and for this? Furthermore, they even held a semester exam, the results of which were never announced.”

Karishma, who is now studying Mass Media in Mumbai, said, “During classes, they (college) would show us movies and TV shows.

For just that, I was traveling all the way from Koregaon Park to Prabhat Road and paying Rs 1.28 lakh!” Even when she notified the college director of what was happening, nothing changed.

GLOBALLY RECOGNIZED, LOCALLY OBSCURE
Kanuga said, “Later, we found out that the college was not yet recognized by AICTE. That simply means they are running an illegal course.

Then, we decided to take her off the course and pursue the matter, as we had been cheated.” Karishma and her parents brought the matter to the Consumer Forum and fought the case for almost a year and a half.

The complaint against WLC was lodged with the Pune District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum in January, 2008.

“We had claimed compensation of Rs 5 lakh, as my daughter lost an important year because of the college,” said Kanuga.

“I approached AICTE, while also filing an RTI application with the State Directorate of Higher Education. However, I did not get any reply from them.”

Kanuga’s RTI application sought to know “whether AICTE recognition is mandatory to run a course like mass media”.

PARENTS, STUDENTS, BEWARE!
Consumer activist and president of Grahak Hitwardhini, Sudhakar Velankar was representing the Kanuga case.

Velankar said, “According to the AICTE notification dated May 16, 2005, it’s a criminal offense if a foreign institution is running a course in India without AICTE approval.”

Legal expert Adv D G Sant, who is also secretary of Grahak Hitwardini, said, “The case of Karishma Kanuga is an eye-opener for students and parents everywhere.

WLC had already received a notice from AICTE, earlier. Now, it is up to the state government to take action against such institutions.

Unfortunately, the state is not doing anything. Institutions without proper recognition are simply fleecing students of their money. Parents and students should come forward to fight against such institutions.”

NO ORDER RECEIVED YET: WLC
When Pune Mirror contacted WLC India regarding the matter, the Pune campus director diverted us to the Delhi office.

Head of marketing WLC India, Sunil Gideon said, “We have not received the order yet. As a policy, we do not refund fees once the course starts and the student start attending classes.

In this case, Ms Kanuga attended the classes for several months before she decided to leave. Also, we are not running any illegal courses.”

WLC College India relationship with Wigan and Leigh UK

Wigan and Leigh College, UK - Profiteering out of Indian students

http://www.careers360.com/news/3751-WLC-College-India-All-you-MUST-know

The role of WLC, UK does not appear to be above board, seeking to profiteer out of the desperate need by Indian students for any international diploma. From October onwards Careers360 made many telephone calls and sent e-mails to every available official functionary of the institution. After many promises to respond later, as we go to press, WLC, UK has not come on record on any issue, instead a few e-mails were diverted to WLC India.

According to Mr. Arora, the students of WLC, India can obtain a Post Graduate Diploma Certificate from Wigan and Leigh UK. This certificate is termed as 'equivalence' certificate. In order to obtain the 'equivalence' certificate from WLC, UK, students of WLCI are required to pay an equivalence fee of £450 (Advanced level courses) and £300 (Professional Level) directly to Wigan and Leigh College, UK. What does the equivalence stand for? Does the equivalence certificate hold any significance in UK employment market? WLC, UK again doesn't answer.

WLC College Review

I am a student of wlc college India, for PGBE course, i am in 4th semester i exams will be over in June. this college promised me that i will have a placement when i will walk out of my college and along with my course they will provide me trainee-ship in which i can earn my half of the course fee, but all promises where not kept and now no one in India related to this institute or b-school is ready to provide questions to my answers , they gave me 100% job grantee not warrante that i will get the job , now they ate my 4 lake rupees and not ready to provide me a proper placement. They are asking me to join a job in which i will get 8thousand per month. why should they lie 2 student. i came to you people 2 help me and please stand along with me against this college so that i can get placement in the next one month and save rest of the students for spoiling there life.
this is the words from the CEO to a news paper on Saturday, Jun 14, 2003
Mr Vinay Pasricha, CEO and Director of Wigan & Leigh (India), said the college offers courses on business management, fashion technology, advertising and graphic designing. Media studies are offered both for graduates and undergraduates.

"We are here to make money but not at the cost of the students' future. Our students are successful because we teach them what industry demands. The promoters have not taken a single penny out of the company. Instead, profits have been continuously invested back into it," Mr Pasricha told Business Line.

but now they are just not seeing anything creating a situation for student to suicide ..plz help me i am a student and frustrated for my job.

If u feel the complainer's english is SO WEAK that he is worth 8000 only, how did he got admission in WLC... How did he clear WAT???? Is the level of ur entrance exam so low???? nd u proudly advertise it as ONE OF THE LARGEST B-SCHOOL IN INDIA, STATE OF THE ART INFRASTRUCTURE, bla bla bla... nd the entrance exam of such a GR8 college is so bull shit????

U hav the % of student who got placed as traineeship, but do u know how many students have been REJECTED admission in college???? NONE... every one walkin in the campus gets admission... the college's slogan shud be : WLC - A threat to ur future... or : TUM MUJHE PAISE DO, MEIN TUMHE DEGREE DUNGA (ooops... sorry... not DEGREE, DIPLOMA... That too PGDBE *with terms and conditions applied)

When we took admission in this college, we never saw our seniors for 2 months... when our juniors joined the college, they never saw us for around 2 months... Because the college is SO SURE that the existing students will give only and only NEGATIVE feedback about the college... If there is a real man in this entire institute, come forward and deny these charges... If the college management feels their rules are so impressive and targeted towards the improvemennt of students, why dont they disclose it during admission...
Why is the student handbook which comprises all the rules and regulations given to student AFTER admission???? And Mr.Sameer how can college suspect students might cause losses to college??? I'll tell u the actual reason in case this esteemed organization has not told u themselves, they take security deposit coz they know once the students get to know all the rules and regulations, they might not be in a position to pay the charges and hidden costs levied by the college...

Answer me, WHY DOES A STUDENT AVAIL LOAN TO STUDY???? simple reason, he does not have money to afford his studies... Now once a student takes loan and joins college, he is been told about the money he has to pay apart from the fees... Before taking admission, the college will give the prospective students tea, coffee, offer snacks etc... once they take admission, they will have to pay even for the tea they take in cutting edge camps...

U answer to these questions first, then i'll ask u other questions... and trust me there are tons of them... and i know, u wont answer to any of these...

For all the students planning to take admission in WLC, please its my request, JUST REJECT THE IDEA... neither do any research on it (I have already done enough) just dont take admission...

plz close this school so that other peoples future should not be risked.

Thanks,
Indian Student aka frank luca

WLC College India: All you MUST know

Does it offer a vocational or professional course, a certificate or diploma? Is it valid? What’s the relationship between WLC, UK and WLCI? Careers360 seeks the answers.

http://www.careers360.com/news_3751-WLC-College-India-All-you-need-to-know-pre-admissions

IT all started in 1996, when Wigan and Leigh made a promising beginning with its first campus in Delhi. It was a pioneering start of the study model 'earn while you learn'. This model enables students to attend classes for half-a-day and spend the rest training in a related industry, gathering hands-on experience.

'I interned with Kotak Securities and later with HSBC Bank where I was getting a stipend of approximately Rs. 7, 000, 'says former student Pooja Sharma, founder of Connect2Consult, a software consultancy firm. After working with Traxon India - a campus placement - she opened her own enterprise. 'I was satisfied with the industry exposure,' she says.

According to TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION, the premier publication on higher education in the UK, Wigan and Leigh College, UK (WLC, UK) set up a company called Wigan and Leigh College (India), joining hands with Indian partners. WLC College India then went about offering its franchise for £36,000.

The aggressive hunt for sub-franchising by WLC College India had even become a matter of concern for British Council of India, which expressed its concern on the quality control that arose out of the college's plans of franchisee network build-up (read full story). But according to the promoter Mr. Vinay Pasricha, the relationship between WLC, UK and WLC College India was a partnership and not franchisor/franchisee. 'The college was an Indian entity from the start,' he says.

Also Read: Franchise brochures jumped gun

Till 2004, WLCI also used to run three of Edexcel's qualifications, in business, fashion and Art & Design. Edexcel is the UK's awarding body that provides internationally recognised academic and vocational qualifications.

'Edexcel used to award BTEC certificates to WLCI students till the time WLCI ran our qualifications,' says Vikas Mirmira, regional marketing manager, Edexcel.

'Right now WLCI is not offering any Edexcel qualification,' he adds. Edexcel allows its qualifications to be offered only after accrediting an institution after a check on its available resources and facilities.

The first move to delink from WLC, UK was made by the owners in India in 2006. In February 2006, Wigan and Leigh (India) registered itself as WLC College (Application number 1420350/ Class 41). They also went on to list other names similar to Wigan & Leigh, UK.

WLC College India with Label (Application No. 1420352)

* WLC Wigan & Leigh College India with Label (Application No. 1420353)

* WLC College India with Label (Application No. 1420354)

* WLC Wigan & Leigh College India with Label (Application No.1420355)

* WLC Education Foundation (Application No. 1420351)

All these applications were dated 10/2/2006. It is another matter that the Government of India allows such misleading names to be registered, knowing fully well the harm it can cause to students.

According to Mr. TPS Arora, COO, from 2007, onwards they began advertising themselves as WLC College, India and the decision to move from Wigan & Leigh College India to WLC College, India was taken to build an Indian brand. Mr. Pasricha claims, 'We are using acronym WLC after taking permission from Wigan and Leigh College, UK.' However, no attempt has been made to communicate to the students that WLCI no longer has the same relationship with WLC, UK and that these two are different entities. Added to this is the deceptively similar names used by WLC College India. For example their entrance test, which used to be Wigan Aptitude Test is now WLC Admission Test (WAT) .

And now, no programmes of WLC College India are audited or accredited by any external agency like Edexcel. Mr. Arora claims their courses are internally audited by WLC, UK (which also implies that they are not audited by Edexcel or QAA, making these qualifications invalid in UK). The students only get an equivalence certificate from WLC, UK for which they pay. But by its own admission, WLC College India has modified its syllabus to suit Indian market. The compromise on the quality of pedagogy and delivery mechanism, if any, which might result out of this dilution of relationship is a subjective issue best left for WLC College India to respond and work upon, for its own future.

Outcomes
Traineeship: This is the core of the programme, wherein the students work in a company after the classes are over by 11 a.m. A cross section of students informs us, it is basically frontline jobs, and predominantly in sales. The jobs are demanding and some of them get paid on an incentive basis. When coupled with industry-oriented course materials, it makes students job-ready than most management courses do. But as seen in Karishma Kanuga's case, this does not seem to happen all the time (See Box).

Placements: Considering that the positioning of WLC College India is that of a finishing school, in comparison with many others it does quite well. It is able to place more than one-third of the total students, at reasonable salary levels. While this might be a reasonable achievement considering the quality of student intake, one wonders whether the student is aware of the difficulties, in getting placed when he or she enrols (See Box Traineeship & Placement Data).

Further education: WLC College India offers its own certification, which only has the value that an industry recruiter bestows upon it. As far as our understanding goes, the PGD award one gets from WLC, UK, unless it is accredited by Quality Assurance Agencyy (QAA) would not be considered for immigration purpose in the UK or any other country. We have tried getting validation for this fact from every government body overseeing the education quality in the UK like the Skills Funding Agency, Ofqual, Ofsted, QAA but after several follow-ups with each of these agencies, we failed to get any satisfactory answer. Instead, we were directed to WLC, UK, which chose to keep silent on all the questions we raised.

Our advice
What WLC College India might offer students is an easier access to entry level jobs, and some academic inputs. The traineeships definitely groom students and make them job-ready, besides the access. However, if you are into higher studies or are seeking a qualification that is legal, WLC India is not for you.

Karishma, the whistle-blower
In January 2006, Pune-based Karishma Kanuga, took admission in mass media course in WLCI, Pune campus. But 41 days passed by without a single class or lecture to a batch of three students. Miffed, Kanuga's father filed a complaint against WLCI with the Pune District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum in January 2008. '

The course was not AICTE approved and was therefore illegal,' says Vasudeo Vensimal Kanuga, father of Karishma Kanuga. 'My daughter lost one academic year,' he adds. Since there was 'deficiency in service' (as the court said in favour of the case), Kanuga got full refund of the fees (Rs. 1.28 lakh) along with 9 percent interest in addition to Rs. 50,000 as compensation for losing an academic year. It took a year-and-a-half for the verdict to arrive.

COMPLAINT

Wigan and Leigh College, UK - Profiteering out of Indian students

Why WLC College is a Fraud?

Why WLC College is a Fraud?

I guess we cannot blame our college for everything.i cannot blame my college as i m the one who choose to be there.no body forced me and it was my duty to confirm everything.I ask a question to everyone name any college which will give u everything that was promised. As a student of WLC i would say that there are some loop holes but there are positive points also.Atleast they are recognised.

Additional Details
the first comment is referred to the question (Wlc is Fraud)..I just tried to answer that question.

hi rajesh i know whatever you have written is true. But i have seen that most of the colleges promise something and do something else.So i just wanted to say instead of cribbing over things we should try from our side to make things better.I think nothing is easy we need to help ourselves. and write or directly talk to the management if we have any problem.

You are asking a question .. you are answering yourself .... I think you want to discuss something rather than asking a query.

According to me there are the 2 things that we expect from a college
1) good teaching
2) employment opportunity at the end of the course.

The point no 2) was not in the fray until some 4 to 5 years back but not it is something a candidate/student expects.

I feel there is nothing wrong in a candidate/student expecting this ... when we pay close to 5 lac and above as fees .... we expect to get in return something. Isn't?

2 years back (Jan 2007), I was planning to join Stansfield School of Business, Chennai ... the course fees was 3.5 lac ... program everything was fine ... 10 month in Chennai .. 3 months in Singapore etc; etc; ... but they (management) were not 100% confident about placement ..

when I spoke with the course counselors I asked them the previous year placement record data ... they did not show me that ... I was confused and later did not join .... you know what .... it was good I did not join ... Stansfield is not recognized any more in India.

So, every college (while college every training institute) in some way or the other is trying to cheat people!

WLC College - Management Students’ Strike in WLC, Lucknow,India

http://www.shvoong.com/books/469484-management-students-strike-wlc-lucknow/

Management students of Wigan & Leigh College held a strike on Wednesday, November 29th, in the college premises by boycotting the classes. They were agitated and upset about the misleading course they are pursuing. According to the students of the current batch, the management had fooled them to pursue PGDBE (Post Graduate Diploma in Business Economics) course than PGDBM (Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management), for which they had enrolled themselves. The students feel that their investment of lakhs of rupees has gone down the drain by getting admission in WLC. They want only to pursue the PGDBM course, which is a Degree. They believe that in India the Diploma will not be recognized and they cannot get a decent placement after course completion. According to the Centre Head, Mr. Verma, “It was not a strike but confusion”. The issue is not about the degree or the diploma recognition but the contents of PGDBE. Earlier to the strike, the students had communicated with Ms. Malobika Sen Gupta, CEO, WLC, on the internet for the same concern. She replied that PGDBE is the latest curriculum approved by the WLC, UK. According to the faculty member of the local college, they have agreed to incorporate the two courses. The students were not available for any comments. Mr. Verma further said, “The students were well aware of the course and its recognition during enrollment. Yet they want a written clarification about it”. The PGDBE course is what the industry wants globally. Placements after course completion are the main concern of students who manage to enter such professional institutes. But the management has organised campus interviews with companies like Info media and Karvy. In some cases students are short listed and sent to companies for interviews. What follows simply depends on their individual capabilities.Classes resumed in the college today.

WLC College students stage protest demonstration

Express news service Tags : WLC College, students Posted: Tue Jun 15 2010, 05:44 hrs Chandigarh:

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/wlc-college-students-stage-protest-demonstra/633989/

The WLC College students, who are not being allowed to sit in the exams because allegedly they have not paid their full fee, staged a protest demonstration near the college on Monday. While the college officials claimed it was against the institute policies to allow a student to sit in the exam until he had deposited the whole fee, students said what the college was demanding was not a part of the fee but some additional charges.

According to the Government of India regulation, service tax of 10.3 per cent is levied on the institute under the vocational private institution category. That is why, the institute is charging an additional Rs 8,000 from each student. “Why should the students suffer and pay additional charges, apart from the the already exorbitant fee. Now the college management is not letting us sit in the exam, which is entirely unjustified,” said one of the protesting students.

wlc college - Harassment at workplace.

Harassment at workplace. Stopping the salary when hospitalized for critical illness.

http://www.citehr.com/220613-harassment-workplace-stopping-salary-when-hospitalized-critical-illness.html

I was employed with WLC College Bangalore Campus since August 26, 2009. I was performing exceptionally well as the program manager for Life Skills sessions and i was further allocated the HR classes which was not my specialisation. I started taking those on the instruction of campus director Mr. Hidayath and was doind preity well during those classes as well.

On December 01, 2009 our Chairman Mr.Vinay came to the campus and despite Mr. Hidayath knowing that i was unwell and was in 3rd month of pregnancy, these two seniors made me stay in office till 7 PM on December 01, 2009 when no other female employee was there. He himself said that you resign from your services as there is no provision for taking maternity leave during pregnancy at any point of time in our organization.

I was ill during that time and got admitted to the St. Philomenus Hospital the very next day, i was under tremendous emotional distress when i came to know that i have some very critical illness and that too when i am pregnant, i called up my Centre Director Mr.Hidayath to inform him about my condition but he din’t even cared picking up the call, I sent him a sms as well which he din’t replied. I was advised bed rest and no travel. At the day of salary disbursement when I din’t received my salary I called up Mr. Hidayath, he said that I should get in touch with Noida office. I mailed to Noida office and they din’t even replied to my mails, no one even called me to check the status of my health and despite knowing that I am in Hospital they stopped my salary.

As I was advised complete bed rest with zero movement activities because of critical illness, my Husband Mr.Varun mailed all the higher management persons in Noida to check what is being done to my services and why my salary cheque is stopped, he repeatedly requested them to grant me leaves and release my salary but they din’t gave any ear to that. Instead Mr.Nitin (AGM-HR) called up to inform that he apologise for whatever happened but he said Mr.Chairman has asked him to terminate me, when my husband asked for the mail stating the same, they din’t even turned back. Mr.Nitin said you are free to take whatever steps you want and they will do a full and final settlement of my dues.

Issues:
1.Use of abusive language (Derogatory remarks against women employee).
2.Calling me a dog employed for HR classes.
3.Making me stand in office for more than 12 hours when no other female staff was there in office.
4.Denial of Maternity leaves.
5.Threat of termination if I ask for maternity leaves.
6.Stopping of my November salary when I was hospitalised.
7.No reason given for not releasing the salary.
8.Telling me that I am terminated without any mail.
9. No clearance of dues inititated.

I want these issues to be raised and addressed in a dignified manner and as an educated and qualified women I want other women to know that still there is lot of discrimination in the society and violation of Article 42 of constitution of India which states that women should be provided just and human work atmosphere and maternity relief.

Please help me getting this complaint addressed with adequate action against Mr.Hidayath (Centre Director, WLC Bangalore Campus) and Mr.Vinay Parischa(Chairman, WLC Campus), who doesn’t even have know how to treat a women with respect.

More details about all me and my husband’s email communications with WLC for leave request, salary release and complaints can be made available if required.

Please suggest me what course of action shall i take.

Regards,
Prachi

Hello Every body,
I am Avinash Kumar Tripathi, I was submitted my registration money in the college on the date of 15 september 2009, On that time when I inquired about study then the college said that the college gives M.B.A degree but now He told that The college gives PGPBE (Post Graduate Programme In Business Economics) and the college said that your class will be started on 27 september and your education loan will be sanctioned during one month. But Neither my loan was sanctioned nor the class started on due date. Now the college said that he will not return my registration money. So in that case I want that the College refund my money. And i want to say that the college is not good for management study because the college not recognised by Indian Government or not recognised by any other Indian University...

Wigan and Leigh college is a Fake. It says that it is affiliated from U.K., but thats all lies. It is just misusing the name of UK university. Its not even recognised in India and in U.S.

I passed in 2004 and I got my Advance Diploma certificate in 2007. Please dont play with your career and dont waste your money. They are big cheats.

Regarding education, If you want to be self employed, its a ok college. But if you want to persue a professional service its not recognised, so you wont be rewarded for the Degree.

Question: Is WLC college a fraud ?

I am a student of WLC (Wigan& Leigh college),Bangalore.I am going through a trauma coz of this college. It is pure Non-sense,fraud,cheat and they are always back of money, they have no student concern and don't value students grievance.they promise to give internships in well reputed companies but they give internships in low profile companies which wont even pay us.So i request everyone who is planning to join this college to better not spoil their lives and money. If anybody a part of this college can share their experiences.

Answer
well when i was in school WLC college people came to our school and presented themselves as a very reputed college and assured placements if we joined them after school.they took an aptitude test of all the students and said the people who score well will be chosen for the course of their choice and strange was this everybody was chosen and all of us received letters from them.NO REPUTED COLLEGE OR INSTITUTION WILL EVER GO AND RUN AFTER STUDENTS TO JOIN THEIR INSTITUTE ITS THEIR FACILITIES WHICH THEMSELVES MAKE STUDENTS RUN AFTER IT.in my opinion and discussion with friends its a total fraud.

this is the words from the CEO to a news paper on Saturday, Jun 14, 2003

WLC COLLEGE (I) LTD

FULL & FINAL AMOUNT
Dear Sir,

Greetings for the day

Today I am writing this mail in hope of a positive response.

My full & final is pending since September 2009, and since than I have made a number of calls to release the f&f amount.

During this period Chandra ji (AGM Payroll)discussed many times with Col. Pushkar(VP HR) and Mr. Bahl.(Director Finance)

Col. Pushkar verified it two times and also had a talk with Mr. Bahl, but it is three times that Mr. Bahl rejected and saying not to pay my full and final amount.

Why the company making the policies if it can’t fulfill it?
What is HR is doing in this Regard?

At the time of the termination of my services with the company Mr. Chandra did not given me time to serve the notice period and promised me that the company will pay me one month salary and clear my all dues and asked me to give me the resignation and mentioned on it (One month notice period will be paid) and signed it.

As per my appointment letter is mentioned in it if the company terminates my services it will pay me one month salary.

Now the company is cheating to me, during this 4 month Mr. Chandra also tried to bargain with me and was asking to take 15 days salary instead of one month. Is it a company or a vegetable market?

Kindly do the need full as I have no trust on anybody in this company, that’s why I am writing it directly to you in hope of something will be happened positive.

Thanks & Regards
Rajesh

WLCI College Complaints - How Wigan & Leigh College India (WLCI) cheated us ?

WLCI College

How Wigan & Leigh College India (WLCI) cheated us ?
I am Bismaya Ranjan Sahoo, a student of Wigan & Leigh College (WLCI), Kolkata branch, roll no: 7912 of PGDBM (2006-2008) Batch. From the very begining, when I joined in this college I have been promised that, we will get 100% traineeship as well as 100% final placement with a great academical atmosphere. But after 2-3 months of joining this college, I knew the actual face of the college. Its a biggest fraud in the educational industry in India. The prosimes had been made to me (not only to me but also to everyone joined in this college), was only a trick of marketing which doesnot have any value. No one of us got anything from the college, not a single placement & not at all a good study.

The most tragic thing is that, we all have given our final exam in the month of August 2008 & today is 12th March 2009, till yet we have not got our results. That means we dont have any proof that, we have done MBA.

After investing around 3 Lacs rupees to do MBA from Wigan & Leigh College (WLC), we did not have anything to show any one that we are MBA professional.

This is my public plea to every one who is interested & not-interested to join WLC college that, if you want to waste your money as well as career then must join Wigan & Leigh College (WLC). A very Best of Luck for that from me.

If you feel to talk with me, then call me on 09230100258

wlc college india is a fraud

wlc college india is a fraud . it is not approved by any government body . it is not authorized to offer any course / diploma/ degree. Hence they have started giving 6 monthly certificates and a final diploma from wigan and leigh uk . Its not MBA ! Its nothing ! Wigan and leigh uk charges a whopping 400 pounds for the same . They have nothing to do with wlc college . they don't even care what wlci teaches in the first place ! WLCI does not offer jobs . this is despite many a claims made by them . the faculty is pathetic and the college is run like a village dhaba ! The campuses they claim as world class - if you check are opened in homes ! some have just a single room And some don't even have water ! do not join wlc college . they will not refund ur registration deposit if you have made it . check for yourself . stay clear of wlc college india . all the best for your career !
